Cape le Grand NP with its famous Lucky Bay lies about an hour drive east of Esperance and was the original reason why we picked this region for our trip. What attracted me was a foto of a kangaroo at the beach. Needless to say, we were disapointed. Not only was there no kangaroo at the beach, but also the camp ground there is always fully booked for months in advance. Australians actually wait and check the booking possibility on a daily basis 180 days in advanced until the slot is released for booking.
OK, we admit, the bay with its white sand and cristal clear water is stunning.
What made us turn around quickly is the number of vehicles driving and prking at the beach, not our cup if tea. First the originally soft and powdry sand feels like a highway, then is there the pollution and the number if people. To be fair, walking 300 m along the beach would solve the problem, but there are alternatives closeby.
One of the most interesting spots in the park is Thistle Cove. Cuz most people only quickly stop for a selfie with a remarkable rock, ups I missed this shot, it’s pretty empty and we are fascinated by the surf here and could and I think did watch it for hours.
Even better a bit of rock climbimg offers a stunning view over Thistle Beach.
A short 20 minutes walk from the car park at Hellfire Bay is Little Hellfire Bay, our favorite bay and I’d say one of the most beautiful bays of the world. The best, it’s doesn’t show on any park map and therefore is not crowded at all.
Along the path are so many little flowers to be found and the birds are singing as loud you could record one of there „hommmm cd’s“ .
Tomorrow we’re off to Cape Arid National Park!
